It seems like no one involved with war is exempt from the dangers of battle — not even those who make a film about it.

A 35-year-old stuntman has reportedly been stabbed in the shoulder on the set of the Brad Pitt-starrer “Fury” while they were filming on England’s Oxfordshire countryside. Following the incident, he was airlifted to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.

“There has been an accident between two professional stuntmen which happened in a rehearsed action sequence,” production company representative Claudia Kalindjian said in a statement. “It was an accident. It is obviously very unfortunate. He left the set laughing and talking.”

The Thames Valley police are not treating it as a crime and shooting is occurring on private land. Residents of the surrounding area have been warned to expect sounds of gunfire and explosives.

Even for those who aren’t stuntmen, the dangers of action filming can be life-threatening. Tom Cruise learned this on the set of 2003′s “The Last Samurai,” as co-star Hiroyuki Sanada almost sliced his throat with a real sword after the mechanical horse Cruise was on malfunctioned.

David Ayer is directing “Fury,” which also stars Shia LaBeouf and depicts a crew of Americans in Nazi Germany as they embark on a mission near the end of World War II. It’s set to bow November 2014.
