Willow Smith is no longer just flipping her hair back and forth, reports V Magazine in their February issue story, “The World According to Willow.” In fact, she’s interested in what most other normal 13-year-olds are interested in–being a seventh grader.
Except not really. You see as “regular” as Willow wants to be, she’s still a child of Hollywood, and that come with a certain set of demands–ones Willow doesn’t necessarily want. She recently pulled out of playing “Annie” in the film’s revival, which is being directed by her father, saying, “I just wanted to chill, and be at home, and decompress, and just find out what I wanna do and where I stand on this planet, with the little tiny place we have.” Pretty self aware for a young teenager, no?
It seems that Willow has a strong sense of who she is, which clearly comes across in the bold fashion choices she rocks everywhere from the red carpet to just hanging out with friends. She told V that when she dresses, she tends to “just put on what feels right. Sometimes that’s Converse and a T-shirt, sometimes it’s Givenchy heels and leather pants.” She’s clearly into fashion in all forms–like father like daughter it seems (Will Smith was all over the place at Paris fashion week).
For the photo shoot that accompanied her profile, Willow flew to Paris to be photographed by Karl Lagerfeld–the man, the myth, and the legend himself. Karl photographed Willow without much of the cotton-candy flair you normally see in teen shoots–the resulting pictures are dark, edgy, and open, with bits of youthfulness (the hot pink) sprinkled throughout. Sounds a lot like Willow herself, if we’re honest.
Through V‘s lens, the world according to Willow seems like a well-adjusted place for the daugther of one of the biggest stars in the entire world. She’s reading (and re-reading) Twilight, she’s experimenting with music, and she knows what she wants out of life. ““I just wanna do things that make me feel good and not stressed,” says Willow. Great advice, girl. We might just have to steal that mantra.
