The release of critically acclaimed movie ” Half of a yellow Sun ” has been delayed by the censor board in Nigeria. According to sources the movie has been banned but the National film and video censors board states otherwise.
A statement released in Abuja on Monday by Caesar Kagho, the Acting Head, Corporate Affairs of NFVCB denied all claims saying the movie has not been cleared for the Nigerian cinemas.
It said that management of the NFVCB was ensuring that some unresolved issues in the movie were sorted out in accordance with the laid down regulations of the board. It did not, however, state the ‘unresolved issues.’
The statement said that the board reaffirmed its determination to exercising its responsibility of film censorship and classification in the country.
“Half of a Yellow Sun” is written by renowned writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and directed by Biyi Bandele.
The movie is based on the novel of the award winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Adichie, which focused on a love story of two sisters who were caught up in the outbreak of the Nigerian civil war.
The movie featured notable Nollywood and foreign stars including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu and Genevieve Nnaji.
The movie was recently premiered in London and Lagos respectively.
